To wear the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association patch you have to have served in a combat zone. To ride this, you do not. Chapter 13-3, chartered at Lewiston in April 2012, opens its riding season on the Memorial Day weekend with a sanctioned open ride that anyone can join for twenty dollars, and puts what it takes into local veterans' support.
Staging is at Steelhead Park on the north side of Lewiston, on the Clearwater riverfront. The route follows the river upstream to Orofino and then climbs on to Pierce — long river-grade sweepers first, timbered mountain road afterwards, and nothing technical on either stretch. A comfortable half day, easily done two-up on a cruiser.
The picture, before anyone moves, is a park lawn by the water filled with bikes and a patch on every third back that had to be earned somewhere a long way from Idaho.
