5th Annual Doug Burnell Memorial Ride for Fallen Bikers

Saturday, July 10, 2027 · 9 AM · Hallowell, Maine

About this event

The name has one man in it. The ride is for everybody in his position.

Rob Burnell, a Maine musician, turned the idea over for a couple of years before he started this in 2023 for his father. Doug Burnell was a central Maine father and a rider, and he was killed in a crash about five years before the first one went out. Everything raised goes to the United Bikers of Maine's Biker Down fund, which helps the families of riders killed on the road — so the ride is for Maine's motorcycle dead as a group, with Doug's name on the front of it.

It forms up at the ice rink on Whitten Road at Hallowell and leaves mid-morning, running out through the lake and ridge country of the Androscoggin valley to Jay, then finishing at a trackside bar in Winthrop for food, music and a raffle. Registration cost is not published.

At Jay the whole field stops. There is a tribute at the spot where his father died, and a moment's silence, and then it moves off again.
