4th Annual CPL. Andrew L. Hutchins Memorial Ride

Saturday, August 7, 2027 · 8 AM · North Monmouth, Maine

About this event

This ride is organised by a government department, which is not how these usually start.

Corporal Andrew L. Hutchins of New Portland, Maine, was a military policeman with the 101st Airborne, and he was killed by small-arms fire at Combat Outpost Sabari in Khost Province, Afghanistan, in November 2010. He was twenty. His daughter was born four months after he died. The Maine Bureau of Veterans' Services runs the ride in his name and sends everything it raises to the Travis Mills Foundation.

It is about fifty miles, starting from the pizza place on Route 202 at North Monmouth and finishing at the high school at North Anson — out of the Kennebec lowlands and up into the hill country behind the Carrabassett. A morning run, done by early afternoon. The entry cost is not published.

The detail that stays with you is not on the route at all. The Summit Project carries a memorial stone for him that his father chose from West Grand Lake, near Princeton, because that is where Andrew caught his first salmon.

Is this your event? If anything here is wrong — the date, the town, the details — or you would like to add to it, tell us and we will fix it.
