Forty-seven years is a long run for any motorcycle event, and the Knockout Rally has managed it under the Hill Country chapter of Gypsy MC — a club old enough and wide enough to have chapters overseas, including one in Germany. An event does not reach its forty-seventh year on novelty. It reaches it because the same people keep coming back.
The setting is Nolte Island Recreation Park on FM 466, just outside Seguin in Guadalupe County, about half an hour east of New Braunfels and an easy ride from San Antonio or Austin. It is a park rather than a fairground or a bar car park, so it suits people who want to make a weekend of it rather than turn up for an afternoon.
Three days, Friday through Sunday, in the second week of October — which in that part of Texas is usually the first weekend worth wearing a jacket for. Worth checking with the club on what is included before you set off.
