Wedgefield Children's Home Toy Run

About this event
Pastor Paul Goff started working toward a children's home at the end of 2018 for a reason he stated without decoration: he saw the need, and he saw the poverty. Wedgefield Baptist Church, east of Sumter, built the place as the second phase of a vision drawn from a verse in James about looking after orphans and widows, and opened it with room for eight children, short-term or long. Before it opened, a local men's group, Christian Men of Concord, raised more than thirty-one thousand dollars toward it at a single fundraiser. That home is what this December run is for. It is carried on ABATE of South Carolina's chapter calendar at twenty dollars a head; the chapter running it is not named there, and no route or start time has been published, so the practical details are worth confirming before setting out. What is not in doubt is where the money goes. A home built for eight children in a rural corner of Sumter County does not have a long donor list, and a December run that fills part of the gap is the kind of thing that gets counted.
