Spar Customs FREE Car/Music/Bike Show

The shop whose name is on this one does not build vehicles. Spar Customs has traded in Carlsbad since 1991 in embroidery, screen printing, patches and banners, and the show is something it puts on with Dabbles, the North County Crewsers and the SD Scooter Clan — the scooter club being the clearest sign that the two-wheel half of the title is meant seriously, though no bike classes are published. Attending is free, all ages, dogs welcome; $15 puts a vehicle into the competition with VIP parking and a raffle ticket. There are about a dozen food stalls, a vintage marketplace and live music through the afternoon. The venue carries the day: the Windmill Food Hall sits inside the landmark windmill beside the freeway at Palomar Airport Road, which was Pea Soup Andersen's, then a TGI Fridays, then empty for years, until the restaurateur James Markham took on the twelve thousand square feet in 2018 and filled it with fourteen vendors and seating for three hundred. Worth knowing before planning a year around it: from 2027 this drops from monthly to quarterly.
