Lowcountry ABATE Toy Run
Sunday, November 29, 2026 · Goose Creek, South Carolina
About this event
ABATE exists to lobby. Its chapters raise money to fight helmet laws and defend riders' rights, and that money stays inside the organisation. This one is the exception, and the organisers put it plainly: they do not keep a dime of it.
The Lowcountry chapters of ABATE of South Carolina run it jointly with the Salvation Army, and have done since the late 1970s — the forty-sixth went out in 2023, which puts the first somewhere around 1977. The money and the toys go into the Salvation Army's Angel Tree at Christmas and into its year-round work in the Lowcountry: rent, utilities, food, and meals for people sleeping outside. The figures they quote locally are fifteen hundred children and eight hundred families a year.
It is seventeen miles, police-escorted, from Goose Creek up the Berkeley County corridor to the bowling alley at Moncks Corner. Flat, straight, pine and swamp, no technical riding whatever, and the pace is parade rather than ride. A toy or a cash donation is the entry.
Around a hundred bikes went the full seventeen miles in the cold and the rain in 2023, toys strapped to sissy bars.
