Kickstands for Kids

A poker run on the southern Oregon coast, hosted by the 7 Devils chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse — the organisation whose members stand alongside children who have to testify against their abusers, so that the child has somebody frightening on their side of the room. The ride registers first thing and leaves mid-morning; your bike needs to hold sixty miles an hour and you sign a waiver. From midday the community centre turns into a general afternoon with food trucks, games, bounce houses and a raffle drawn in the early afternoon — a recent prize was a Honda Shadow. Attending costs nothing, which makes it an easy thing to bring people to who do not ride. The money goes to the chapter and to the local court-appointed special advocates for children. The coast road either side of Coos Bay, and the run inland along the Coquille, make the approach as good as the event.
