29TH ANNUAL FALLEN HEROES MEMORIAL RIDE

Saturday, August 28, 2027 · Calabasas, California

About this event

There are two Fire Hogs memorial rides in southern California, and this is the older by a clear two decades. The club was founded in 1991 by Los Angeles City firefighters; the county chapter runs its own, much younger ride. This one has reached its twenty-ninth year and the motto has not moved: ride to live and live to give.

The money goes to the Widows, Orphans and Disabled Firefighter's Fund of the Los Angeles Firemen's Relief Association, which is to say it goes to the families of people the riders worked alongside. Jack Wise coordinates it. The morning opens with the LAFD Honor Guard, the Gold Coast Pipes and Drums and ten ceremonial bells, then two to three hundred bikes leave Hollywood for the Santa Monica Mountains and come down into Calabasas for lunch, a live auction of sixty-odd lots and a raffle. Passengers and non-riders are expected rather than tolerated.

The picture to hold is the one the crews make. The pack rolls beneath a raised aerial ladder with a flag slung from its tip, and the firefighters underneath it stand still.
