11th Annual Indian Motorcycle Pow Wow
June 11–13, 2027 · Maggie Valley, North Carolina
About this event
Maggie Valley draws motorcyclists by the thousand, mostly to a museum and mostly on a day pass. The Indian Motorcycle Pow Wow is the opposite arrangement: registration only, five days, and effectively one marque in the car park.
It is run by Tribal Thunder, an independent group of Indian riders with no factory backing and no club affiliation behind them, which is worth knowing, because it means the thing has been kept going for eleven years by riders rather than by a marketing budget. People come for it from Texas, Iowa, New York, Florida and Canada.
The base is on Soco Road rather than at any of the valley's larger venues. Organised rides go out graded easy or technical, into what the organisers will only describe as the magnificent roads in and around the Great Smokies, which means the Blue Ridge and the gaps either side of the North Carolina and Tennessee line. Around the rides sit themed socials, campfire evenings, a pool party with a film outdoors, patches and tokens. A recent edition ran fifty dollars solo and seventy-five two-up, with a catered barbecue included.
The gathering opens with a smudging ceremony over the bikes.
