Most animal charities run a shelter of their own. Valley Paw Partners does not. The Naugatuck volunteers behind it put the money into municipal animal control instead, paying for shelter facilities, veterinary care, food and spay-neuter work in Naugatuck and Prospect. The ride itself is a proper half-day: ninety-seven miles through the Naugatuck river valley and the western Connecticut hills, four stops, a card collected at each. The best hand at the inaugural run won a gift certificate to a tattoo shop.
