Steel Horse Rally
May 7–8, 2027 · 800 Garrison Ave., Fort Smith, · Fort Smith, Arkansas
About this event
A downtown street rally rather than a field or a campground: the city closes eight blocks of Garrison Avenue and bikes park down the middle of it, which works because Garrison is one of the widest main streets in the country. It was started by a retired air force air traffic controller and runs as a registered charity — the money goes to local causes, a veterans' home and children's charities among them, and it has put several hundred thousand dollars into them over its first decade. The programme is built around a parade through the valley, a vintage show staged alongside the police and fire departments, a poker run and a strongman competition, with live music and vendors filling the avenue between them. Attendance runs into the tens of thousands. Mount Magazine, the highest point in Arkansas, is close enough that a ride up it has become part of the weekend.
