Toys for Tots 42nd Annual Toy Run

About this event
Most toy runs end at a collection point. This one ends at a hill. Little Rock's Toys for Tots run has been going since the mid-1980s and the Marine Corps Reserve coordinates it rather than any club, which is why no club claims it and no founder's name has survived. What has survived is the scale. More than three thousand motorcycles rode it in one recent year, carrying upwards of twenty thousand toys, and the destination is a receiving mountain of gifts that everyone involved calls Toy Hill, built in a shopping centre car park off I-30. There is no fee: a bike brings one or two toys. Recent editions have staged at Rodney's Cycle House on Doyle Springs Road and run south from there under police escort. It is flat city riding, so any street bike and any level of rider will do, and the thing people photograph is not the column but the cargo. One family came through with a giant rainbow unicorn strapped across the pillion seat, which is the closest this ride gets to a mission statement.
