About this event
The man who takes delivery of this one has stopped pretending to be measured about it. Steve Phillips, who runs the Sandhills Moore Coalition for Human Care, told the Wingmen when they arrived with a full truckload in 2025: "We greatly, greatly, greatly appreciate you, and we talk about you all year long." It was his fourth year of it. The coalition was started in 1986 by local churches and now has sixty-four congregations behind it. The riders collect through the autumn from boxes left in breweries and sports bars around Moore County, meet at Cox's Double Eagle Harley-Davidson for the last of it, then ride the lot to the distribution centre in Southern Pines and help sort it there. The dealership has its own line of descent: the Cox family began in Asheboro in 1961, where Recil Cox ran a motorcycle shop after his shifts at a textile mill, and his grandson Robbie opened this store just north of the Pinehurst traffic circle in 2017. The Sandhills either side of it make the ride — rolling sand ridges at five to seven hundred feet, under longleaf pine.
