Louisiana's Christian Motorcyclists Association state rally, run out of a Harley-Davidson dealership in the Shreveport-Bossier City area — the only one of the CMA state rallies anchored to a dealer, which gives it a public bike night on the Thursday before the rally proper gets going. The weekend follows the CMA pattern: riding, food, worship and praise, chapters from across the state meeting each other, and a visit from the region's national evangelist. Organisers state plainly that other motorcycle clubs and members of the community are welcome, not only CMA members. The riding out of Shreveport is better than its reputation. The Boom or Bust Byway follows Louisiana Highway 2 across four parishes through the old oil country — abandoned derricks in some fields, working wells in others — running east to Lake Claiborne and its state park. It was named a southern travel treasure a decade ago and remains almost empty on a weekday.
