The post has a name that most of its own poker run's entrants could not tell you. VFW Post 1809 in Monroe is the Rodney J. Hobbs post, chartered in April 1930 and named for a man from Eros, Louisiana, who shipped overseas in June 1917, fought at Cantigny and again on the Marne, and was killed that July. Proceeds go into the post's veteran programmes.
It starts from Warhawk Harley-Davidson on Frontage Road, out on the I-20 corridor, and covers flat north Louisiana delta — straight roads, easy going, nothing that will trouble a new rider or a trike. Twenty-five dollars a bike and ten for each extra rider covers a shirt, lunch and music, with vendors open before the ride rolls.
Worth knowing before you plan around it: cars are waved in alongside the bikes. This is a post fundraiser that happens to run on two wheels, not a ride that turns anyone away for arriving on four.
