A dealership and chapter event in north Scottsdale, and the thing that makes it worth riding to rather than reading about is the Friday evening — the pre-party is built around a chapter-versus-chapter competition, which turns what is usually a polite social into something with an edge to it. Saturday is the open day: live music, a bike show, upwards of twenty vendors, raffles, food trucks and bike games, wrapped up by early afternoon so the rest of the day is yours. That timing is rather the point in Arizona. Finishing at two leaves the whole afternoon for the desert roads north toward the Tonto National Forest, and by the time this falls in the year the heat has stopped being punishing. Turning up on the Saturday is free; the Friday evening has historically been ticketed and worth booking ahead rather than chancing.
