About this event
This is a motorcycle club that asks to see your warrant card.
The Blue Knights began in Bangor, Maine, in April 1974, when Ed Gallant of the city police and four or five colleagues decided serving officers ought to have a club of their own. A neighbouring chief suggested the name and another member drew the logo; the first outside chapter came from Brockton, Massachusetts, before the year was out. There are now something like eighteen thousand members across twenty-four countries.
CA-X was chartered in 1981 with twenty-one members in the Imperial Valley and has close to seventy now, drawn from local, state and federal agencies down on the border. It is a family chapter — it rides the Holtville, El Centro and Imperial parades — and this run funds scholarships for valley students, six of five hundred dollars in the last round plus one given in memory of Justin Denault and presented by his parents.
The riding is the Imperial Valley: below sea level, dead flat, section-line roads running straight between irrigated fields, and an autumn heat that has not finished with the place yet. Nothing technical, any bike.
