American Hill Climb National Championship
October 17–18, 2026 · State Route 241 · Sunnyside, Washington
About this event
Hillclimb is normally a solo discipline: one rider, one run at the hill, a time on a sheet. X-Climb is the exception, and this is the only venue anywhere that stages it — two riders side by side, launching off steel ramps and leaving the floor by seventy feet. It is the reason to come here rather than to any other hillclimb.
Jeff Snipes revived the meeting in 2011 and took the gate from around fifteen hundred to about thirty-five hundred; this is its fifteenth year under him. The sport has deeper roots in the valley than that. Riders were climbing at Horse Thief in the sixties and seventies, the Dust Dodgers ran it in the late seventies, and it moved to Dry Creek in the mid-nineties.
Dry Creek ORV Park is five hundred and twenty acres on State Route 241, with over two hundred camping spots, a pro pit and a saloon on site. The main hill is a thousand and fifty feet. Classes run 450, 700, X-Climb and Premier, and the professional bikes burn nitromethane at up to two hundred horsepower. Sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, and this round decides the championship. Tickets from fifteen dollars. You come to watch, not to ride.
