25th Annual Burn Run
April 16–17, 2027 · 9 AM · Doyline, Louisiana
About this event
Most charity runs hand their money to a cause at arm's length. The Burn Run is put on by the people who turn up at the start of the injury: Brother's Keepers MC, a firefighters' motorcycle club whose Shreveport chapter has backed the same camp for a quarter of a century.
The camp is Camp I'm Still Me, started in 1992 by burn specialist Dr Kevin Sittig for burn-injured children from Louisiana, Texas and Arkansas. The club's own way of describing the point of it is that a burned child gets to be a kid again. The run raised $43,425 in 2025.
It sets up at Lake Bistineau State Park, south-east of Shreveport, on a shallow lake full of cypress and tupelo left behind by a 1935 dam, with piney back roads and about ten miles of woodland trail around it. Friday is a crawfish boil. Saturday is a trivia run out at 9:30 and a live auction under the pavilion at 12:30. Thirty dollars a rider, fifty-five with a passenger.
Cars, trucks and boats are welcome too, which tells you the tone: a camp-on-site weekend social with an auction in the middle of it, not a mileage challenge.
