20th Annual Bikers Against Animal Cruelty Rally

Thursday, August 12, 2027 · 10 AM · Guilford, Connecticut

About this event

Most rides for animals raise general funds and leave the spending to somebody else. Bikers Against Animal Cruelty pays veterinary bills directly, for animals taken out of neglect and abuse cases, and has done for twenty years.

The organisation was formed in Connecticut in 2007, in direct response to the Michael Vick dog-fighting case. A group of riders decided the appropriate answer to that news was an incorporated charity with a warehouse in North Haven, and it now runs around eighty members across Connecticut and beyond. Beyond vet costs it funds spay and neuter for low-income families, rehoming, foster support and pet-care education, and it turns up at shelters with deliveries: The Simon Foundation, Dog Star Rescue, Animal Rescue Foundation, Burlington Animal Control.

The rally itself is a one-day field event at Martin Bishop Field in Guilford, the fire department's ground, known locally as Fireman's Field, with food trucks, vendors, live music and raffles from late morning to early evening. Non-riders are as welcome as riders.

President Jennifer French put the reason for a twentieth one bluntly: the cases used to arrive about once a month, and now they arrive daily.
