15th Annual Thunder for a Cause Benefit

About this event
Most benefit rides name a cause. This one names a person. The Crow River Thunder Foundation picks a single beneficiary each year and puts them on the poster -- the ninth running was for Tanner Gangl, a seventeen-year-old from Elk River with cancer -- so the money does not go into a fund to be allocated later. It goes to one household.
Crow River Thunder is a registered charity as well as a motorcycle club, and describes itself the way clubs of that kind usually do: where friends and bikers become family, advocates for motorcycle safety awareness. Fifteen years of it suggests the description holds.
The shape of the day is ride first and fundraiser after, and the fundraiser is the longer half -- kickstands up late morning, a meat raffle through the afternoon, a silent auction running on into the evening, dinner at five, live music until midnight. The club does not publish the entry fee in advance.
Nor does it publish how the beneficiary is chosen, which is probably as it should be. Somebody in the Crow River valley has a bad year, and a club with motorcycles decides that this is their business.
