13th Annual Ride for Burn Camp

About this event
Illinois Chapter 23 of the Red Knights came into being on somebody else's charity ride. Firefighters from several local departments found themselves riding the same event in 2011, worked out over the course of the day that they had more in common than the job, and chartered a chapter out of it. They have run a charity ride of their own ever since, which is a tidier origin story than most clubs manage.
The beneficiary is Camp I Am Me, the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance's camp for children who have been burned. A week in which a child who has spent a year being looked at is among others who have been through the same thing.
Red Knights membership is firefighters only, serving and retired. The ride is not.
Not much is published about the route, so treat the detail as worth a phone call before setting out from any distance. The constant is the patch: a run made up largely of fire crews, riding for the children at the far end of what they do for a living.
