13th Annual Christmas in July Charity Ride

About this event
Most toy runs end at a collection point. The riders hand over the boxes and somebody else does the distributing. This one does not. The pack rides the forty-odd miles west from Rothschild to Marshfield, and the riders go into the children's hospital and give the toys to the children.
Greg Cemke runs it in the suit, as Santa Greg, with a volunteer group out of the Wausau area. The recipient is Marshfield Children's Hospital, which treats more than eight thousand young patients a year. A recent running took a hundred and twenty bikes and something near ten thousand toys, which is a great deal of cargo for a pack that size and is the practical thing to know before setting off. Bring panniers, or bring a trailer.
The route is flat central Wisconsin farmland, so the arrival is the point rather than the riding.
Two former patients, Skylar and Henry, ride along as what the organisers call their miracle children. Cemke's own summary of the whole business is the shortest available: it gets bigger every year, and it is all for the children.
