There is no ride. That is worth saying first, because this sits on a motorcycle calendar and most things on one ask you to go somewhere. This asks you to park.
What happens instead is that a fire crew takes over the Biggs Harley-Davidson lot in San Marcos for a few hours in the middle of the day. Chili goes into pots, visitors taste and vote for a People's Choice, and the dealership's own staff are judged in a category of their own. There is barbecue, a band, and fire apparatus parked up with demonstrations running through the afternoon.
Nobody publishes a founder for this one, and the dealership does not claim it invented the idea. What is on record is that the fifth of these ran in 2016, in August, which makes it older than most dealership events and one that has since survived a move to autumn.
Tasting is free. Money goes in at the firefighters' booth rather than the gate.
