11th Annual A Ride to Break the Silence
June 4–5, 2027 · Niobrara Township, Nebraska
About this event
Most charity poker runs send their money somewhere else. This one keeps it where the bikes are. The proceeds go to the H.E.A.R.T. Program at the Santee Health and Wellness Center, run by the Santee Sioux Nation a few miles from the start line, which provides mental health and addiction treatment locally.
The cause is suicide prevention and aftercare among veterans, serving military and their families. There is no club name attached to it. The published contact for eleven years has been Michael Henry, on a mobile number and a Gmail address, which is about as community-scale as an event gets.
The riding is a reason to make the trip regardless. Niobrara sits where the Niobrara River meets the Missouri, at the eastern end of Nebraska Highway 12, the Outlaw Trail Scenic Byway. That is a hundred-odd miles of two-lane through river valley and bluff country which most riders outside Nebraska have never heard of.
Registration runs from Friday afternoon at the Ohiya Casino and again on Saturday morning. There is a barbecue feed, a silent auction, raffles and live country music.
Cards get drawn at stops along Highway 12, with the river below the road for much of it.
