The 2026 Nun Run - 22nd Annual

Saturday, October 10, 2026 · 8 AM · Villa de Matel, 6510 Lawndale · Houston, Texas

About this event

Most charity rides stage in a dealership car park. This one forms up on the lawn of a convent.

Sister Deenan Hubbard of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word put the idea to church officials with her brother Ted, and when they asked why nuns should be organising a motorcycle run her answer was: why not. The first one drew about sixty bikes and raised fifteen thousand dollars. It now runs to several hundred riders and six figures, and the money goes to the CHRISTUS school clinics, which put free immunisations, physicals and counselling into underserved Houston schools — something like ten thousand student visits a year.

The route is a flat forty miles under police escort, out from Villa de Matel, the Sisters' motherhouse on Lawndale in the East End, down to a seafood place on the water at San Leon. No technical riding, no altitude, nothing to catch out a pillion.

The image that stays with people is the tattoo station set up on convent grounds at the breakfast, and a ninety-year-old sister being taken for a ride before the column leaves.
