Every dollar leaves the building. Tallahassee Harley-Davidson puts the whole of the chili cook-off's takings into Vet Village, the local housing project for veterans without a roof, and holds none of it back against the cost of the day. That is less unusual at this dealership than it sounds. Their calendar reads more like a charity's than a shop's — a breast cancer poker run in early October, a mental health ride that comes round repeatedly, a Toys for Tots run in December, and this in the middle of November. The sixth running is a midday affair, eleven until four on Capital Circle Northwest, with DJ Rah playing live over the cook line. Entry rules for cooking teams, tasting prices and the judging were not published ahead of the day. What is published is where the money goes, which for a chili cook-off on a dealership forecourt is the part worth knowing. No riding required, though the forecourt fills with bikes regardless.
