Race Pace Track Day

About this event
Most track days sort riders into novices, intermediates and a fast group, then hand each one twenty minutes an hour. Race Pace does the opposite and says so plainly: racers and advanced riders only, no sessions, no run groups, and the track open all day to anyone who has proved a lap time. Under 2:10 for the big inline-fours and twins, under 2:18 for singles and smaller bikes; anything slower than a 2:35 pace is not eligible, and unverified riders wear a vest and ride only the first twenty minutes of each hour. It is $295 a day, registration at seven, bikes out at nine, finished at four. Tyres matter here, because a day can run past 175 miles. The circuit is Ed Bargy's — 2.68 miles and seventeen turns on a dry lakebed, opened in 2010 and run in both directions on different weekends, this one clockwise. The ground underneath it was a wartime air supply depot for General Patton's desert training, and the transcontinental radio beacon tower is still standing on the property.
