Norfolk Legion Riders 22nd Annual Charity Ride

Saturday, July 10, 2027 · 9 AM · Norfolk, New York

About this event

Nobody knows yet who the money is for. The fifty-odd riders of American Legion Riders Chapter 925 vote on the beneficiary each year, and their director Thomas Morrison works to one rule when he puts the choice to them: veterans first, and as local as it can possibly be. That has sent the takings to burn-pit exposure campaigners in Potsdam, to Project Lifesaver in St. Lawrence County, to North Country Honor Flight and to Fort Drum's wounded, and out to children's charities in the years the room went that way. It has been running since 2005 out of Post 925 in Norfolk, named for John Adams Jr., and it is the only Legion Riders chapter in the county. The route is a circuit of other posts and veterans' organisations scattered across the North Country, back to Post 925 for a meal, a raffle, a fifty-fifty and a poker hand. A good year takes about ten thousand dollars. Ninety-seven motorcycles turned out in 2022 with cars and trucks behind them; nobody is turned away for arriving on four wheels. Flat farm country along the Raquette, and an unhurried day.
