AMG 2nd Annual BLOODY HARLAN GHOST RIDE!

About this event
Plenty of Halloween rides borrow a spooky name. This one borrows a real one. Harlan County was called Bloody Harlan for the coal wars of the 1930s and 40s, when the attempt to unionise the mines turned lethal, and the organisers say so plainly rather than pretending the name is about ghosts.
It is run by the Appalachian Motorcycle Group with Backroads of Appalachia, the Lynch nonprofit that has spent years turning abandoned coal-hauling roads into signed, mapped motorsport routes. That is why the named roads here are things like the Revenue Runner, the Joe C Paul Medal of Honor Trail, Gateway 119 and Coal Train 421 rather than state route numbers.
The shape of it is two halves. Daylight is a fall-colour run on those mountain roads. After dinner in downtown Harlan comes a guided ghost walk — advertised, in the organisers' own words, with real alive tour guides — taking in the county courthouse and Martins Fork, then a ride out to two sites with a reputation.
It finishes late. Whatever you ride, you are riding home in the dark.
