7th Annual Poker Chip Run for the Veterans Memorial

Most poker runs reward the best hand. This one pays out at both ends — the highest chip total takes five hundred dollars and the lowest takes two hundred — so a bad morning is still worth riding out for.
What it funds is the Blanchard Veterans Memorial, dedicated in May 2024 and described by the city as only the second of its design anywhere in the country. Much of it was paid for a brick at a time: a hundred and twenty-five dollars buys three lines of eighteen characters, and every brick is searchable on site by scanning a code, so a name underfoot pulls up the man it belongs to.
The town takes this seriously enough that the Military Order of the Purple Heart named Blanchard the most patriotic city in Oklahoma. The run is a Parks Department operation rather than a club's, which is unusual, and the town's own material describes it simply as the rally that supports the memorial.
Riders collect coloured chips at five stations across the flat country south-west of Oklahoma City. Twenty-five dollars, and breakfast is included.
