6th Annual Black Sabbath MC BBQ Competition
September 2–6, 2027 · Wichita, Kansas
About this event
The Black Sabbath Motorcycle Club was founded in south-east San Diego on 17 February 1974 by seven Black men the club still calls the Original 7, its first president Robert D. Hubbard, an electrician at the city's utility company. Wichita was the second chapter it ever opened, started in 1989 by Allen "Sugarman" Brooks, a racer and builder the club treats as a figure in its own history.
That chapter works out of a clubhouse at 816 South Broadway, and the address shapes what it does. One member told a local news crew that the club deals with the homeless community almost daily simply because of where it sits, and its poker runs have raised money for The Coalition ICT, which supports people who are homeless, fleeing domestic violence or coming out of incarceration.
The barbecue competition is the chapter's own annual gathering, and little has been published about the format beyond the fact that it happens. What the club does publish is where it draws the line on machines — cruisers from 750cc, sport bikes from 600cc — and what the money is for.
