About this event
This run has been going since about 1977, which makes it older than most of the people on it, and it began as a piece of public relations that has long since stopped needing to be one.
Ronnie Duck, one of the founders, is still involved, and his explanation to a local reporter was blunt: forty-eight years ago there were not very many of them, they did not have a bad reputation, and it was television that gave them one. The answer was to ride through town every autumn with toys strapped on. Rob Larson, who commands the American Legion Riders contingent, puts the same thought differently — that bikers are supposed to be big tough bad guys and are nothing of the sort.
No single club owns it. The Legion Riders, the American Freedom Riders, Christian Motorcycle Association Chapter 127 and Legacy Vets all turn out together, and the toys go to Toys for Tots and the Salvation Army for Laramie County children.
A hundred and eighty-nine bikes rode the last one. The picture at the end is a box trailer packed solid, which is the entire point of the day.
