40th Annual DuKane ABATE Toy and Food Run

About this event
A toy run is usually a club's day out. This one is put on by a lobbying organisation, and the people marshalling it spend the rest of the year arguing motorcycle legislation in Springfield.
ABATE of Illinois stands for A Brotherhood Aimed Towards Education, and its DuKane chapter covers DuPage and Kane counties, meeting on the third Tuesday of the month at an American Legion post in West Chicago. The chapter calls this its biggest event of the year and suburban Chicagoland's oldest and largest toy run parade, and after forty runnings it is hard to argue. Who started it, and why, is not something the chapter has ever written down.
Riders gather mid-morning in Elburn and the parade rolls to Sycamore Speedway at Maple Park, where there is music, food and prizes until six. Twenty dollars a head, plus a new unwrapped toy and something non-perishable for the food bank. Any street-legal make, no membership required.
The tell that it is a proper local institution is the collection boxes that appear in Fox Valley bike shops weeks ahead of the day.
