22nd Annual East Valley Firefighter Charity Ride
Friday, April 9, 2027 · Apache Junction, Arizona
About this event
Most charity poker runs are a short lap and a raffle. This one is a day's work: five stops that start at the foot of the Superstition Mountains on the Apache Trail, climb to Globe, carry on up to Payson in the pines, drop back down to an airfield in Mesa and finish inside Arizona Bike Week at WestWorld in Scottsdale. High hand and low hand both pay. East Valley Firefighter Charities runs it, a volunteer outfit covering the fire services of Mesa, Gilbert, Queen Creek, Superstition, Gila River, Salt River, Florence and Fort McDowell, and the money is unusual in staying close to home — it goes to firefighters and their families in a crisis rather than to a national cause. Nobody publishes who started it or in what year, which for a ride past its twentieth edition is a gap worth noting. Registration opens early at the dealership with breakfast and coffee, shirts for the first couple of hundred riders, and a pipe and drum band playing in the car park while people fill in their forms. It suits riders who want distance and heat, not a parade.
