The name points the wrong way. This has nothing to do with antique endurance running — it is a navigation contest, half scavenger hunt and half stopwatch. Teams of at least two bikes collect their maps at eight, then sit in the car park for three hours, forbidden to leave, working out a route through checkpoints scattered across a hundred-mile radius of East Tennessee backroads. Then the clock runs for seven hours, and arriving a second late is a disqualification. Smoky Mountain Harley-Davidson built it in 2017 for Sean Summerfield, a Maryville man who had started work there at fifteen, built and modified bikes, ran parts and got the dealership's high school build-off off the ground. He died at twenty-three, and the entry money funds a scholarship in his name for an employee's child. Twenty-five dollars single, thirty-five two-up, and that includes the concert at the end.
