Most rides for a cause are organised by people who took the cause up. The Hear My Cry Foundation exists because of a bereavement in its founder's own household. Tazora Dotie-Moore set it up in her husband Daryl's memory and has run it for over a decade.
What the foundation does with the money is specific rather than vague: free counselling and help with medication costs for uninsured Texans, burial assistance, support groups, referrals and community education. It reports more than twelve thousand families helped and over two thousand counselling sessions since it began.
The ride is its main annual fundraiser, staged from Les Zeiger Park on Eagle Drive in DeSoto and running late morning into the afternoon. Neither the route nor the entry price is published. What is fixed is the staging ground: a suburban park a few miles before southern Dallas County gives out into prairie farm road.
