10th Annual TLD Ride
Jun 28, 2027 – Jul 2, 2027 · 10:15 AM · Virginia Beach, Virginia
About this event
The initials stand for The Longest Day, the Alzheimer's Association's midsummer fundraising campaign, and the ride is timed to it. Lisa Thompson, president of the Honey Badger chapter of Women in the Wind, started it in 2018, the year after her mother Dee Rhode died of Alzheimer's. Rhode had owned a motorcycle of her own and had ridden pillion behind her husband for years. Every dollar goes to the Alzheimer's Association, and more than $50,000 has gone since the first one.
It starts at Atlantic Shores, the Virginia Beach retirement community where Rhode spent her last years, with registration and a breakfast, and finishes at a Harley dealership over in Portsmouth. Sixty or so riders is a normal turnout. The riding is flat Tidewater country — bridges, tunnels and estuary, nothing technical — which makes it a comfortable day for anyone still newish on a bike.
The detail to look for is the cut: Honey Badger patches on the backs of a women-led group that is open to whoever turns up.
